Have you ever wondered why some people take pressures and
challenges much better than others? Why some are always at the right
place and at the right time? And why there are people so easy to be with?
These people are in the "flow" so to speak. They carry themselves with a
certain ease and lightness. Very often, these are happy and contented
people. They are in harmony with the world or as we would say, they are
in sync with the world.
Everyone wants to be like
this. Everyone wishes that life would be effortless. And no matter what
anyone says - they may say that they want to make a difference and leave
their mark in the world, they want to enrich themselves, they want
political clout, they want to be beautiful and lose weight, they want
good health, they want to be spouses, better parents, or they want to
find a satisfying relationship - all these they want to attain, they
strive for, they dedicate their lives to - all because they want
happiness and contentment whether they know it or not, whether they
admit it to themselves or not.
So what exactly is Wuji
Yuan Gong? It is a kind of qigong. Qigong is like Chinese yoga. There
are many kinds of yoga, there are many kinds of qigong. There are forms
of yoga and qigong that concentrate primarily on meditation. Some are
designed for your physical well-being and to keep you young. Others are
meant to unleash paranormal powers - feats, like the ability to move
objects from a distance or the power to walk on glass and fire, or even
the power to heal.
The primary purpose of
the practice of Wuji Yuan Gong is to enable the practitioner to return
to the natural state - to be in the flow, to be happy and contented, to
always feel at one with the world - to have the experience of being in
the state of grace all the time, as Christians, would put it. But how
does this happen?
Both the moving and
non-moving forms relax the practitioner. And when one's body is relaxed,
the mind quiets down - just like the clear waters of a still lake. A
quiet mind leads to an open heart. Everyone has experienced this endless
chatter running in our heads, "Why did she do this, why did I say that,
what will happen tomorrow, I might get sick, he's now angry at me...."
When the mind quiets down, it comes to rest in an open heart. And an
open heart is a knowing heart. An open heart instinctively knows what to
do at any given situation. Without fear. Without hesitation. And of
course, an open heart is a giving heart because it is overflowing -
there's a lot to spare. This is not the so-called bleeding heart who
cries when he sees others suffer. An open heart has a fearless quality
about it. A fully open heart has no fears. It loves effortlessly without
reservations, without expectations.
So the more relaxed the
body is, the more qi can flow into the body. With the mental and
physical exercises, the qi circulates, and this in turn circulates the
blood. And this is why a person who is relaxed has good circulation.
This state of happiness
and contentment is man's natural state. It is the state of love. If we
functioned the way we were designed to function, we would all be happy
and contented no matter what.
A journalist once asked,
"What exactly do you mean by the line 'Sheng Zhen Wuji Yuan Gong is a
way by which people can return to their natural state.' What is the
natural state?" It is the feeling of constantly being happy and
contented. To use an analogy, imagine a lake during a typhoon where the
waters are murky because of so much movement caused by the winds. That's
not the natural state of the lake. But when the winds have died down and
the waters have settled down, what do you have - clarity. You see
clearly right to the bottom of the lake. In a human being, when the
nagging noise in the mind has died down, when there is inner silence,
tranquility, and harmony, there is also clarity. Happiness and
contentment follows. This is man's natural state.
So what is qi? Qi is the
life force. Vital energy. It permeates the universe. It is the fiber of
existence on this realm. The Japanese call it ki, and that which is
prana to the Indians, is an aspect of the all-encompassing qi. Qi is
everywhere - inside us, all around us.
As you do the movements
you relax the body and the qi enters your body, making the blood
circulate efficiently. On another level, the qi enters the mind and the
emotions expelling negativities like fears, anxieties, and anger. All
these stresses cause blockages in the body, causing the depletion of qi
which leads to disease.
Imagine a river with a
strong powerful current. The rush of the water can actually push stones,
trash, fish, out into the open sea. So when there is a lot of clear qi
in the human body from the universe, it circulates and pushes the blood,
and in the process expels the debris - mental, physical, and emotional -
out of the system. This leaves one open not only to receive even more qi
but to also naturally circulate it and share it with others. Giving and
receiving become inseparable - when one gives one also receives and vice
versa. Because of this interchange, as one changes, everything around
one also changes.
In the practice of Sheng
Zhen Wuji Yuan Gong there are messages the practitioner is asked to
contemplate while doing the movements. This, in particular, is what
makes this form of qigong different from others. With time, one actually
begins to imbibe the truth expressed in these messages.
Gifted with a healthy body and a peaceful mind, you experience
tranquility, and your instincts are sharpened. You develop an inner
knowing, a heightened awareness, and a deeper capacity to enjoy life.
Everything tastes good. Laughter comes easily to you. You have the eye
to find what is beautiful in the midst of the ugly and unpleasant. You
know you are blessed and you are deeply grateful.
And all this leads to
compassion and understanding. Intolerance and callousness, once expelled,
give way to infinite patience and kindness. The truth of what man is
rises to the surface and shines through. There is no more blame or anger
because compassion and understanding has replaced it. You naturally
understand why people behave the way they do.
There are no more
differences. You see only the commonality in all. This is what
compassion is and this is how true love is developed. Not romantic love,
but unconditional love. Love that does not measure. That state of
happiness and contentment which is man's natural state is the state of
love. That love is the root of all true spiritual paths, the source of
all religions. That unconditional love is Sheng Zhen - the most sacred
truth.
